Convert GEDCOM to PDF in four steps
- Open the free editor. No signup and no email.
- Choose Import and pick your .ged file. You see how many people and families it holds before anything changes.
- Choose Export, then PDF.
- Pick A4 or A3, and fit the tree on one page or print it as a poster tiled across several sheets. The PDF downloads straight away.
A chart you can actually print
The PDF is drawn as vector lines and text, so it stays sharp when you zoom in or print it large. Generations are laid out in rows, partners side by side, with names and years on every card.
Before you export you can tidy the tree: fix a spelling, add a missing date, or remove a branch you do not want on the wall. Nothing changes in your original .ged file.
Printing for family? Leave out the living
A GEDCOM export usually includes relatives who are still alive. When the PDF is going to other people, choose the Safe to share option in the export panel so details of living people are left off the chart.
Bigger trees
The editor you open without an account runs entirely in your browser and takes files of up to 500 people. For a larger file, a free account imports it in full and exports the same PDF. If you only need a list rather than a chart, the GEDCOM to HTML and GEDCOM to Excel converters handle any size.
GEDCOM to PDF questions
01How do I convert a GEDCOM file to PDF?
Open the free Kinleaf editor, choose Import and pick your .ged file, then choose Export and PDF. Pick the paper size and layout and the PDF downloads. There is no signup for files up to 500 people.
02Can I print a family tree from a GEDCOM file without software?
Yes. Everything runs in your web browser, so there is nothing to install on Windows, Mac or a Chromebook. Import the .ged file, export a PDF, and print it like any other document.
03Is my GEDCOM file uploaded?
Not when you use the editor without an account. The file is read in your browser and the PDF is made there too. It is only stored on our servers if you choose to create an account and save the tree.
04What paper sizes can I print on?
A4 and A3. Fit to one page keeps the whole tree on a single sheet. Poster splits a large tree across several sheets that you can tape together.
05Is GEDCOM to PDF free?
Yes. Kinleaf is free during beta, including PDF export, with no watermark.
