Privacy Policy
Last updated July 4, 2026
Kinleaf holds personal records about your family, so we keep this simple and specific. Your data is private by default, we do not sell it, and you can export or delete it whenever you want.
The short version
You keep your account and your family tree. We store that data so the app works, protect it, and hand it all back to you on request. We do not sell it, we do not show ads against it, and we do not use your family records to train machine learning models.
What we collect
Account information you give us, which is your email address and a password, or the basic profile from Google if you sign in with Google.
The family data you enter or import, including names, dates, places, relationships, notes, and any photos or documents you upload.
Limited technical information needed to run and secure the service, such as your IP address and browser type in server logs, and a session cookie that keeps you signed in.
How we use it
We use your data to run your account, save and display your tree, send you service email such as verification and password resets, and keep the service secure. When you share a tree, we use your sharing settings to decide what a visitor is allowed to see.
What we do not do
We do not sell your personal data. We do not run advertising. We do not make your tree public without your action, and we do not use the contents of your family records to train models.
Where your data lives
We rely on a small set of service providers to operate Kinleaf. They process data only to provide their service to us. These include Cloudflare for hosting and content delivery, Neon for the database, Resend for transactional email, and Google for optional sign in. Uploaded photos and documents are stored in private object storage and served only to people you have given access.
Sharing is always your choice
Every tree starts private. If you create a share link, you decide whether it is unlisted or public, and living people can be hidden from public views. You can revoke a link at any time.
Your rights
You can export your full archive as GEDCOM, JSON, PDF, or PNG at any time from the app. You can ask us to delete your account and the data attached to it. Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to access, correct, or restrict how your data is used. To make a request, email us at the address below.
Data retention
We keep your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we remove your trees and uploaded files, and we clear temporary import files on a short schedule. Some minimal records may remain in backups for a limited period before they age out.
Children
Kinleaf is meant for adults building a family history. Family trees naturally include information about children, and that information is entered and controlled by the adult who owns the tree. The service itself is not directed at children as account holders.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle your data, we will update this page and move the date at the top. For meaningful changes, we will also tell you inside the app or by email.
